Three Jersey Jackets

Autumn arrives. Brisk days call for a layer of warmth and comfort;  welcome a rayon jersey jacket to your wardrobe.

In this dye session, I used subtle stenciled pattern to add artistic interest. Clients remark that they like the flattering placement of pattern in my clothing.

Do you like interest at the yoke and collar,  the quiet comfort of an all over texture, or a jazzy bit over the hips,?

Hone: Knowing And Maintaining A Tool

I use different scissors for different tasks in the studio just as I use a variety of knives in the kitchen. Practice informs me which tool works best for a particular task.  Experimentation increases the scope of usefulness for each tool I own.

Recently, I have begun to regard my screen images as tools.  This set of little suns was designed for a custom project.  Before I use it for its intended purpose, I want to know more about how it works when repeated, when worked in multiple colors, when overlapped or spaced irregularly on the background.

A morning’s play with screen and paint introduced the potential of this simple design; I think I would like it in multiple sizes.

Desert Meditation

The 2015 Sacred Threads exhibition opened July 10 in Herndon, Virginia. The exhibition is at Floris United Methodist Church through July 26, 2015. Two of my works are part of the liturgical section.  Desert Meditation is part of the original concept: “the show conveys the spirituality, healing, and inspirational messages that transcend all people.”  All three pieces are for sale.  Contact me for more information.

Consider shadow.

Make a triangle, find its shadow, and pair them up.

Repeat squares.  Print. Arrange. Compose. Repeated squares reveal a cross.

Cover it all.  Draw circles in the sand. Stitch the scrim. Cut. Leave the path of circles. Reveal the cross’s center. Create more shadow. Touch the shimmer.  Fray the edges.

Now be new.

I like to meditate alone during times of transition, before big decisions.  This panel has been a quiet desert retreat in the year I became a wife, again.

Complex images bring me clarity and assurance.
